Check clay consistency first. Clay that’s too dry can’t move through the auger properly, even though the motor still turns. Clay that’s too wet can slip instead of advancing. Test with a slightly different batch to isolate the real cause.
Pug Mill Problems: Uneven Processing
Say clay comes out with soft spots or dry pockets mixed together. The load likely wasn’t mixed long enough before switching to pug mode. Give it more time on the mix setting before moving on.
Loading very different clay consistencies together in one batch also causes this. Try to combine clay that’s reasonably close in moisture content for a more even result.
Problem Three: Air Bubbles Despite De-Airing
